American casino giant MGM Resorts International will reportedly unveil plans later today to create thousands of jobs by building a significant casino and entertainments complex in the largest city in Connecticut.
According to a report from the Hartford Courant newspaper, the scheme from MGM Resorts International would see it partner with Miami Beach-based real estate development firm RCI Group in order to construct its latest gambling venue in the historic seafront Steelpointe Harbor area of Bridgeport.

Las Vegas-based MGM Resorts International is currently spending approximately $950 million to build its MGM Springfield development in neighboring Massachusetts but reportedly expects this venue to face stiff competition from the tribal casino being constructed by MMCT Venture a little over twelve miles away in the small Connecticut community of East Windsor.
The newspaper reported that the latest plan from MGM Resorts International would require the approval of the Connecticut House of Representatives, the Connecticut State Senate and Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy before going ahead but is likely to face opposition from gambling opponents as well as MMCT Venture, which is a partnership between the eastern state’s casino-operating Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
The Mohegan Tribe via its Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment vehicle is responsible for the giant Mohegan Sun casino resort near the Connecticut town of Uncasville while the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation operates the nearby Foxwoods Resort Casino. The Hartford Courant reported that both successfully fought off objections from MGM Resorts International to gain approval to build the East Windsor casino and are now likely to turn their attentions to defeating the expected Bridgeport proposal in order to keep their monopoly on casino gaming in the state.
